Power Back

We have the power back at 2:30 PM today.  We were taking a break in the TV room and the TV was on.  Edna, said you have it on the generator today, I replied I  have not got to that yet, we have power!  So ends our Irene experience.   We have been very lucky, a few fences down and one skylight from barn roof was blown off, had all repaired by Monday.

I did enjoy camping in the motorhome at night; we had tv, lights, refrigeration, and no phone.

Edna and Jill are off to a horse show Friday, Woody, Baxter and I will have a very relaxing 2 days by our selves.  All we have to do is return a generator that was loaned to Dale  and Jill when theirs stopped working.

Lights may be out soon

Have not been able to find a plug to connect our generator to the house, that is what I get for waiting to look but can still run lights and refrigeration (110), but no water pump .  The stores all have lots of generators because they can’t provide the plugs to connect to the houses.  Forecasters have moved up the arrival time of Irene, so I have less time to complete my “to do” list tomorrow.

The bright side is I found some good wine and have plenty of beer, so we will move the motorhome up on the barn area, out of the trees and camp for a while, with no camp ground charge.

Irene may be coming

Delivered Elizabeth to Visual Arts Center for her class where she is making a sculpture of Ashes and then a morning of fishing with Will and lunch at 5 Guys.  Edna and Jill are picking up a horse in MD.  We are now home and starting to get ready for any hurricane activity we may get.  Motorhome filled with gas; if we lose power we move in and live like we were camping.  The lettuce and garlic planted, and now several other beds to get ready for fall crops.

I started hurricane duty checklist for tomorrow.  Generator should be ready Saturday morning and just a few jugs of water left to buy.   If I prepare enough I figure it will miss us

Fall is comming

Yesterday we worked in the garden, and planted broccoli and cabbage, and plan to plant lettuce today.  Today is forecast to be one of the best days we have had all summer, last night it was in low 60’s and today high is only 83.

Hope to work some on the pasture fences and cut some weeds around the barn.  Lots of maintenance planned now that it is not in the 90’s.

Plan to do some street photography Saturday night in Richmond with CCR, if Irene doesn’t deliver rain.  I am taking Elizabeth to art class Thursday, as Jill and Edna are picking up a horse in MD, and after we dorp her off Will and I are going to scout a fishing hole we have been told about on the James near downtown Richmond.

Day of Fishing

Monday put the porta boat in the truck with the electric motor and Will and I went to a local wildlife refuge and pond. We tried the "fake" minnows I purchased at Bass Pro Shop. They worked great. Will caught the largest bass, 15 inch small mouth. On the way home he wanted to know where we were going next week.  We may try a float from Route 522 to home if the water level is low.

We have a good week at the Virginia Horse Center, but business did not come till the last day.  Hoped to leave for home by noon, and left at 6PM.

Am hoping for a trip OBX in September when the fish are running, but Jill and Edna want a mini horse show here in September for the boarders and Jill’s students.  Wait and see how it all works out.

Another day another horse show

Elizabeth jumped her firsr 2 foot 9 inch course on Capt Jack.  She won the class, good work Lizard!  We are getting ready to leave for the Virginia Horse Center Tuesday with our engraving booth for 6 days.

We have made reservations for a “beach fix” in SC in early October and booked a few days in July next year, first time we will have been in SC at the beach in the summer.
They only had a few camping spots left in the month of July 2012, the rest were already booked.  On line reservations sure have changed how we must plan our trips.
