Saturday horse shows

Saturday mostly spent at Horse Show taking pictures for Edna.  The saving grace was a shade tree and a breeze that made it comfortable during the time I spend at the show, having a nice cold beer would have toped off the day.  Monday hope to install a wireless network in our house. This will be the first step in Edna getting an I Pad.

Planted more beets in the garden, dug the rest of the potatoes to make room for the pumpkins, for the Grandchildren.   Fall crops are not far away, but right now to hot to do much garden work.

I took an early morning walk with the dogs to the river, picture is of the trail to the James. I was experimenting with a HDR photo program. It worked well for the capture of the large range of light on the trail.  Worked in the shop on some wood projects this morning and then went to Will’s baseball camp scrimmage game at noon.  After garden is in the shade this evening, we plan to do a lot of picking of vegetables. The new hens are starting to lay and we are now getting 8 pullet eggs a day.

Early start each day

Up at 5:30 to do chores and beat the heat.  Not bad this morning at 5:30 it was 79 degrees this AM and sun not very high yet.  Reeder is on a 3 day golf outing in the Virginia mountains, so suspect it is not as hot as in Powhatan.   Edna is on her 2 day a week to the physical therapist for 5 weeks, she says it is helping her leg.  Edna and Jill picked up a new pony for training, it is a large.

Current schedule is up early, nap in afternoon; float in pool with beer around 5:30 and then turn our horses around 7:30.   Hope it gets a little cooler so I can go fishing and enjoy it.

Wish we were back in mountains camping.

Hot weather on the way forcasted

Just arranged to have an engraving booth at the Lexington National Horse Show Aug 10-14, we have never been at this show.  This means that we will be doing 4 shows at the Horse Center this year.  Jill has students that qualified for the finials at this show and so did our granddaughters, so we had extra motivation to go.

With the forecast of 100+ Friday, I have canceled my attendance at the CCR Photoshot that evening. I was looking to going to Hollywood Cemetery for the evening shoot, as I have wanted to go visit this famous cemetery.

Edna and Jill are going to look at a pony tomorrow, if they like it will bring home to train and sell.

Back home.

Started some venison jerky this morning, should be done in 48 hours.  Have my CCR meeting tonight and it is evaluation night.  I have submitted three photos to be evaluated, one must be of water.  Jill and Dale and family are having a good time with what is left of their vacation.  April and Reeder sure helped with the barn and our animals while we were gone.  It was not a good reason we were at the beach, but I did have fun fishing with Will in the surf.

Last of the cabbage was brought in and I hope to spade the bed for lima beans before it gets to hot.

Saw some wood storks, but no camera.   Dave without a camera, like a bird without feathers, but that is what happens when you pack in 30 minutes and are on the road.

unexpected trip

Sunday night around 10 PM we received a call from Jill, (they are on a camping vacation in SC on the beach) could we come down and stay with Will and Mema in the trailer as they were taking Elizabeth by ambulance to Charleston for emergency surgery.  This is a 1 hour and 45 minute ride with red lights. So we left at 10:30 PM for Huntington Beach State Park.  About midnight we received a call that Elizabeth had just gone into surgery.  Arrived around 4 AM and stayed until Tuesday morning until Jill and Dale were back with Elizabeth.  Elizabeth is OK but will require follow up in Richmond, when they return.

Early morning chores and then relax

Spent the morning fixing fences, around noon was wishing the climate was the same as the mountains were that we were camping in a few weeks ago.  Stopped for lunch and as we ate, watched 4 bucks in our back yard eating our shrubs.  One was a 6 point and the rest were young and had small racks.

As I drank ice tea, thought about our camping trip, remembered how great the weather was and relaxing the three days were.  Did some hiking and lounged around the campsite and read a book.  Nice way to spend your time.

Working on a way to keep the squirrels out of our bird feeder.  The commercial ones are not doing the trick.  Our pond and bird feeder attracts lots of critters, and not all are welcome.  Just chased a six point buck out of the area, he thought our plants were a free smorgasbord.

On their way to the beach

The Carter family left for a camping vacation in SC.  Their state campground is a great place.  However got a call this AM that they had blown a tire on way and now were waiting for new tires to be delivered from Richmond.  This is the 2nd tire to blow on their new tuck.  They are now replacing all remaining tires.  They will get a little late start on the beach vacation, but they will still have a great time after they arrive.

Rained hard last night, but we need the rain.  Our new adopted dog "Baxter" does not like rain and I had a time getting his to go for his nightly walk.  He is still on a leash as he does not know the farm yet and we are concerned that he will chase a deer and get lost.
